Employer Portal Password Guidelines - May 2026
SuperChoice Portal password best practices
The SuperChoice Portal is designed to help ensure you create strong, secure passwords. We recommend following these guidelines when choosing a password that will meet our Portal password strength checks.
Longer passwords are more secure
Longer passwords are harder to guess or compromise than short complex passwords. One of the most effective password strategies is to make your password longer. As a rule of thumb, aim for ten characters or more and the longer, the better.
Ideally, include a combination of uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters. However, if your password is long enough using regular alphabetic characters, our system recognises that the length itself provides strong protection.
Passphrases are better than passwords
Instead of trying to create shorter passwords with special characters (e.g. P@ssw0rd!), consider stringing together a few unrelated words to form a “passphrase” that is easy for you to remember but hard for anyone else to guess. For example, ‘correct horse purple stapler’ is a strong passphrase that is easy to type and remember.
Our system blocks common dictionary words and common weak passwords used on their own (e.g. Pa55word), but a combination of words forming a longer phrase is allowed.
Passwords to avoid
Your password must not be:
• A single dictionary word (in any language)
• Based on personal information (your name, date of birth, pet's name, etc.)
• A commonly used password (e.g., 123456, password, qwerty)
• The same password you use for personal accounts or other services.
• Any of the previous three passwords you have used in the Portal.
Changing your password
Depending on the configuration of your system, you may be asked to change your password from time to time. In that case, you will be prompted to change your password when you login to the system after a certain number of days since you last changed it.
You can also reset your password by using the ‘forgot password’ option on the login screen.
Alternatively, can also change your password at any time from within the Portal by selecting the right-most menu option, (where your username is displayed at the top of the page), then selecting ‘Change Password’.
In all cases, the following screen will be displayed at the point where you are ready to perform the change.
Enter your current password in the first box, then proceed to enter your new password in both the New Password and Confirm
Password boxes. As you type your New Password, a ‘password strength’ indicator will appear. This indicator will move from Red, (unacceptable password) to Yellow, (possibly acceptable, however, considered weak), to Green (a suitable and strong password). Examples below.
Once you have entered a strong password in the New Password box, enter the same password in the Confirm Password box, then click the [Change Password] button.
