Adding or updating an employee with a single name

Individuals with a legal single name

The ATO has provided the following guidance for individuals with only one legal name

Contributions:
As the given and family names are mandatory within the ATO Contribution Data Standard the following convention should be followed.

• The name of the individual is to be placed into Family Name

• Given Name MUST be populated with the value "NOT APPLICABLE” (note quotes not to be included).

This will clearly indicate that the individual has a single name and that the provider has not simply failed to provide the Given name item.

STP:
As only the Family Name is mandatory within the ATO STP Data Standard, this should be populated with the single name. The Given Name can be left blank if the employee has a legal single name.
