SMSF ESA Closure
On the 5th May 2026, the SuperChoice (smsf@superchoice.com.au) Electronic Service Address (ESA) is closing. From this date, any contributions for an Employee with an SMSF with that ESA will be blocked. Most Employers will not be impacted; some larger Employers may have a few employees impacted.
SMSF Awareness & Action
Last November, SuperChoice emailed directly each SMSF that registered with SuperChoice to use the SuperChoice ESA. A reminder was also sent to each SMSF again in February. The email clarified that the ESA is closing; and if the SMSF receives employer contributions, then they must
- Find and register for a new SMSF ESA provider. To assist, the email included a link to the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) list of approved SMSF ESA providers Register of SMSF messaging providers.
- Inform their Employer(s) - Provide the new ESA to any employers making contributions to the SMSF.
To ensure a smooth transition, the email recommended completing the above process well before 31st March 2026 to avoid any disruption to their SMSF contributions.
An Employee has informed me of their new ESA, how do I update the ESA?

How can I check if I have any Employees with the SuperChoice ESA?
- Approximately a month before the ESA closure, when submitting Contributions, you will see a warning in the SuperChoice Clearinghouse Portal if any specific employees are still using the SuperChoice SMSF ESA,
- Alternatively, you can check by navigating to Employer Maintenance > Manage Funds tab and scrolling down to the SMSF table and searching “SUPERCHOICE”.
What should I do after the SMSF ESA has closed?
If a contribution is blocked, you will need to contact the employee and ask them to find and register for a new SMSF ESA provider. Once that process is completed, you will need to update the ESA (see above).
